AF-bot: "How can I assist you?"
Learn about the potential use of artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots in supporting patients before and after their ablation procedures. Check out our test 'chatbot' at www.barts.ai and share your feedback!
What if you could ask an expert questions about your upcoming AF ablation any day, any time?
What about if you could ask an expert about all the risks of different medications you were taking; checking for interactions or side-effects?
What if you wanted someone to talk you through the step-by-step process of coming into the hospital and having your procedure done?
It is unlikely that NHS staff will be able to deliver these support services without some innovation, but these innovations may be closer than we think. You make have heard about artificial intelligence and the use of different machine learning tools as 'chatbots' able to answer questions intelligently based on large language libraries that they have been taught on.
As an experiment, for research purposes only, I have had a go at creating one to support patients before and after their ablation procedures. To re-iterate, these AI tools can make mistakes and oftern misunderstand the question- so what they say should not be taken as medical advice. However, please do take the opportunity to have a play now with www.barts.ai and share your feedback! This test 'chatbot' has not been released any wider than this so you are some of the first people to view it!
Please let me know what you think at bartshealth.bartsaf@nhs.net
That website again is www.barts.ai.
